The PUR Power Survivor PS40E Watermaker is standart when you sail in open
waters
Many yachtsmen around the world can`t imagine to live on board any
more without the watermaker. You don`t even have to resign on high quality
water in southern areas, where otherwise only tap water, containing chlorine,
is available.
That´s how it works:
Seewater runs with pressure through a membrane. While this happens,
all larger crystals, like salt are filtered. The water which is left is
very clear drinking water, the amount of minerals is close to soda water. This
process is called „reverse osmosis“. The technique, in this or a similar
method, is used worldwide in hotels, on ships or for medical purposes.
To haul water through the membrane, a high pressure is needed. So reverse
osmosis systems need lots of energy and they are very loud. PUR has developed
a small pump wich recovers 50-90 percent of the used energy. It runs very
quiet and slowly. That´s why it needs only 7,4 Watt per liter drinking
water. The needed energy can be received with solar panels!
The Power Survivor can be used everywhere, where clean sea water
is available: North sea, Baltic sea, atlantic ocean, pacific ocean, etc.
You just need a 60 Ah/12 Volt battery in your yacht. The Power Survivor
can be connected to the sea valves. Matching adapters are included in delivery.
The Prefilters should be controlled weekly (visually). When the
system is not operated for a longer period, the membrane has to be preserved.
This can be done in 10 minutes.Every 1000-1200 operating hours the pump
washers have to be exchanged. In an inquiry of sailors in carribean waters,
the watermaker was their first choice!

Power Survivor PS40E
The Power Survivor 40E is the smallest and mostly sold, electric PUR
watermaker. The PS40E is delivered with a hand lever, which can be mounted
in an emergency and is independent from power: e.g. when the power is cut
off or when you are in a distress. It is the follower of the PS35.
PS40E Included in delivery
Watermaker, english manual, prefilter with Niro-bracket, 2 Service
valves, tubes and fittings, spare prefilter cartridge, conserver
Prefilter
kit
In waters with a large amount of suspended particles, e.g. shallow
bays, an additional prefilter is recommended. This prefilter (5mic)is finer
than the standard prefilter (30mic) and is mounted behind it. Additionally,
a feedwater pump (12 V/0,8 A/h)is delivered. This pump compensates the
loss from the second profilter and increases the water production. We recommend
the prefilter kit, even if the water maker is not installed below the water
line. Especially if it is continuously used, to increase the maintenance
intervals.
Maintenance
kit
The maintenance kit contains multiple spare prefilters, membrane preservatives
and -cleaner, as well as all washers. A maintenance is recommended every
1000 - 1200 operating hours.
Handheld watermaker for the life raft
Many years ago PUR started with the development of manual desalinators.
At that time, small reverse-osmosis systems were developed by order of
the US-Navy, so that mariners and marine aviators can be provided with
drinking water in an emergency. That´s the origin of the Survivor.
