Das Furuno NAVnet 2 Network on Board.

When choosing an electronic nav chart system, everyone has his own preferences. FURUNO offers two different configurations: C-Map or Navionics + FURUNO (please specify it with your order). The chart moduls are available in the following formats: C-Map NT+ FP, Navionics Nav-Chart (for Navnet) or C-Map NT+ SD, Navionics Gold SD (for Navnet 2) . In a NAVnet system just one chart module is necessary, because the data are available via Ethernet in all connected NAVnet instruments.

A system consists of max. 4 instruments. Radar, Plotter and EchoSounder sensor set are named as one instrument. Every combination, even with monochrome- and colour displays, is possible. 2 instruments are connected with a cable, when you have more instruments, a hub is interposed. Compass sensor PG- 1000 and GPS sensor GP- 310B can additionally be integrated via direct connection (without hub). With a complete NAVnet system, consisting of  Radar, Plotter, EchoSounder sensor set, ARPA, GPS-, compass sensor and chart module every information is available on every active display (Radar Overlay only on colour displays). Due to security reasons,  TV / DVD / Video are not transmitted; when needed, every 10,4” colour display has to be equipped with a separate PAL / NTSC video kit. To these instruments, a commercial PC Monitor can be connected as a passive slave display (RGB kit required).

Compared to other manufacturers, in the NAVnet System not only a separate display of  Plotter or Radar as a single or dual display is possible, but also a direct overlay of radar pictures on the Plotters nav charts. This Radar Overlay called function, is an outstanding feature of the NAVnet series. It makes the radar navigation a lot easier; coastal marks, buoys etc. can be identified at once! Radar Overlay is possible on all NAVnet Colour displays , when a PG-1000 Compass and a GP-310B GPS sensor are integrated besides the Radar and Plotter with a chart module.

After the installation of the ARP-11, ARPA (Automatic Radar Plotting Aid) is available at the radar instrument and it follows up to 10 selected targets. On the radar display the distance, bearing, speed, closest approach and moment of closest approach of the selected targets is shown - a invaluable help in crowded waters. The ARP-11 is available as an option for the 10” and 10,4” radar instruments , the ARPA data are received via Ethernet from all connected NAVnet Radar instruments and Plotters. To use the ARPA function, compass data in the AD-10 format and GPS data have to be available(look at COMPASS DATA and GPS SENSOR GP-310B)

Besides the typical full page screen mode (only  Plotter or only Radar or only EchoSounder or...), you have the possibility to define your own display out of different pictures with the NAVnet instruments. Depending on the instrument, a double or triple subsivision of the display is possible. In a complete NAVnet system you have the choice between more than 50 different combinations, 5 or 6 of these(depending on the instrument) can be saved as individual “Hot Pages” for a fast recall. With the colour displays, different colour variations are available, e.g.land / sea, background / Radar echos, waypoints, markers etc.

To display the different Radar- and Plotter-modes (e.g. True Motion, ARPA and Radar Overlay) compass- and speed data have to be available. The speed data are transmitted from the GPS (GPS sensor or with the NMEA input), but for the compass data an electronic compass with the output of HDG data or data in  AD-10 format is required. To use the ARPA function, only  AD-10 data are accepted. We recommend the Furuno PG-1000 Compass sensor, it sends data in AD-10 format – precisely and stable, even when the yacht is pitching and rolling. So every Radar- and Plotter- mode is guaranteed. 

This is necessary, to use the EchoSounder software of the  NAVnet instruments and it consists of a Transceiver box ETR-6/10N with up to 1000W RMS (=8000W p/p) transmitting power, dual frequency mode(50/200 kHz) and EchoSounder sensor. Various types of sensors for through-hull - or stern mounting are availabel. Also the maximum depth is dependent on the  sensor (up to 1200 m). When there is only one instrument, the transceiver box is connected directly, with two or three instruments the connection is made using the hub, that takes over the data transfer.The box works with a board voltage of 12 V/24 V.

To use the NAVnet Chart Plotter- and Nav data displays, GPS data are necessary, either via NMEA input or via connection to the GP-310B sensor. A 12 channel parallel receiver and an antenna are housed in this only 11 x 7 cm in diameter spraywaterproof enclosure. It has to be connected to the NAVnet instrument and then it supplies the complete system with precise GPS data.

Beside the user friendly, multilingual menu, it is a great benefit, in a big system, when all instruments have the same actuators. Therefore in the NAVnet system FURUNO has allocated every instrument the same keyoard -  you don´t have to use different keyboards all the time while navigating with different instruments! As a bonus, the 10,4” Colour-LCD Monitors are equipped additionally with an alphanumerical keyboard for an easy input of waypoints, routes,etc.

For all 10,4” NAVnet instruments (Radar and Plotter!) a video board in PAL/NTSC format is available. After the installation, films can be played in on the colour display via Videorecorder-, TV-, DVDPlayer- or camera connection (full screen or split screen). This is perfect in a boring night watch or supervision with fix mount cameras (when more than one camera is connected, a camera switch is necessary). The video dasta are not distributed via Ethernet; if required, each 10,4” NAVnet instrument has to be equipped individually with a video board.

With the Furuno FAX-30 blackbox you also get weather charts and Navtex information on all 10,4” NAVnet instruments (Radar and Plotter!).
